Ms. Vu Thi Kim Phuong, Deputy Director of the Hai Phong Department of Industry and Trade, shared this at the event.
In her opening remarks, Ms. Vu Thi Kim Phuong, Deputy Director of the Hai Phong Department of Industry and Trade, emphasized that the world is witnessing a strong transformation of the digital economy, in which e-commerce plays a pioneering role in promoting socio-economic development. Despite the challenging regional and global economic context, Vietnam's e-commerce sector in the 2021-2025 period is expected to maintain an impressive growth rate of 20-27% per year, reaching an estimated size of US$32 billion by 2024.
Hai Phong – with its position as the largest port city in Northern Vietnam, modern transportation infrastructure, and hundreds of industrial zones and clusters – is becoming a dynamic trading center of the country. E-commerce in the city accounts for 16-18% of total retail sales of goods and consumer services revenue, higher than the national average (12%), with an average growth rate of 23-25% per year. The strong development of logistics, smart seaports, and digital infrastructure has created an ideal environment for e-commerce to thrive and contribute positively to the city's digital transformation process.
Ms. Phuong emphasized that the generation of students in Hai Phong is standing at a crucial threshold for entrepreneurship and career development. E-commerce is the golden key to the future, opening up a diverse career ecosystem ranging from digital marketing, data analysis, smart logistics to interface design and technology. Digital skills will help them cultivate innovative thinking, adapt quickly, and become a young, dynamic workforce for the digital economy.
Ms. Phuong also affirmed that e-commerce does not require large capital or traditional premises, thereby opening up opportunities for students to start businesses from small ideas, helping Hai Phong products reach domestic and international markets.

Ms. Nguyen Phuong Ly, Deputy Head of the Information, Service and Training Department, Center for E-commerce and Digital Technology Development, Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy (Ministry of Industry and Trade)
Agreeing with the views of the leaders of the Hai Phong Department of Industry and Trade, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Ly, representative of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy, Ministry of Industry and Trade, analyzed the overall picture of e-commerce in Vietnam in relation to the strong movement in the Southeast Asian region. Ms. Ly stated that Southeast Asia has become one of the most dynamic markets in the world, with the total value of online transactions exceeding US$100 billion by 2024. Within this overall picture, Vietnam stands out as a bright spot, with e-commerce revenue reaching US$25 billion, placing it among the top 10 fastest-growing countries globally and ranking third in Southeast Asia in terms of market size, after Indonesia and Thailand, with over 60 million online shoppers.

According to Ms. Ly, this impressive growth rate not only reflects the expanding market size but also places a huge demand on the young workforce. Students need to be equipped with digital thinking, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of how platforms operate if they want to adapt to the future e-commerce and digital economy labor market.
Ms. Nguyen Phuong Ly also emphasized the new regulations on livestreaming sales – a rapidly developing business model in Vietnam and directly related to the model the students had just experienced. Ms. Ly stated that livestreaming has become an important sales channel, but it comes with requirements for information transparency, compliance with regulations on goods, and the legal responsibility of sellers to protect consumer rights. For students, who may become business owners or content creators in the future, understanding the legal framework is essential for sustainable development on digital platforms.

From the perspective of a professional organization in the e-commerce field, representatives from the Vietnam E-commerce Association also shared highly practical content, focusing on livestreaming skills and building personal branding in the digital environment. Experts stated that in an increasingly competitive environment, content creation capabilities, on-screen presence, the ability to maintain real-time interaction, and understanding of platform algorithms are crucial factors for young people to make their mark and improve business effectiveness. In particular, building a consistent and professional personal image and knowing how to leverage user behavior data will help students increase their competitiveness in the e-commerce job market.
The combination of practical experience, market knowledge, legal updates, and hands-on skills creates a comprehensive and valuable training program for students. Beyond simply approaching e-commerce through numbers and concepts, students in Hai Phong are immersed in a real digital business environment, understanding how the market operates and knowing what preparations are needed to participate effectively. This is precisely Hai Phong's goal: to build a young, dynamic, and creative e-commerce workforce, contributing to the city's digital transformation and digital economic development in the coming years.
